Just a quick post today…
Many people ask me where the best place is to get stock photographs, illustrations, and other things of a graphical nature. I use two different places.
Most stock image sites are credit based. You buy credits and then the credits sit in your account until you use them (or possibly expire if they sit too long.) Each image is priced in credits based on the type of image and its size.
So, a small photograph used on a website might cost 1 credit while a huge photograph used in a magazine ad might cost 10 or more credits.
iStockPhoto -Credits start out at $1.50 each. They’ve been raising their prices frequently so check the site for current pricing. This seems to be one of the most popular royalty free stock image sites. I use them a lot.
BigStockPhoto - Credits start out at $2.50 each so the images are bit more expensive than iStockPhoto. But, I like this site’s search/tag feature so it’s easier to find what I’m looking for. Plus, they let you use their images in templates and other stuff that you’re planning on reselling. Be sure to check their licencing agreement since things change and I’m not a lawyer.
Here’s one more source that looks good, but I’ve not yet tried them. Maybe someday.
Fotolia - I’m not going to make any comments since I haven’t used them.
